3rd post

Hey guys, internet has become very limited. Not sure if I will be able to load anymore pics, but I will keep doing the best I can.

Today got off to a slow start while I had to set up a meeting with the church we will work with on Sat and Sun. Last night we had multiple power outages and the girls got to scream a little! Hopefully tonight they will be asleep if and when the power goes out! This morning we went back to Rosslyn for the High School chapel. The kids found if very similiar to what we have at SCS. We then had lunch at a food court at the local shopping center and the kids got to gawk at the huge new American embassy here. This afternoon we are tiling and helping the kids write letters back to the folks who sponsor them. I think we might find a few of these kiddos in our bags when we return. So many are growing great connections with our kids. The group is handling the frequent schedule changes and slow pace of everything, as well as the packing all of us into a really small van every time we travel. I continue to be amazed at the beauty of the country and can't wait to show more the kids. Please be in prayer because I was asked to preach on Sunday at the youth service at my old church. Not sure how I feel about it, but I know God will work through me. Tonight we will have a traditional Kenyan meal and then on Friday we will be heading to a slum to work with some other kids. Our kids have only seen the best side of Kenya and that is the minority. Be in prayer for them as we process all the poverty they are about to see. Love to all. We are all healthy and safe. :)

  1. Coach Bird,
I pray for the Lord to guide you as you preach and for your lips to fully be able to put forth what I know is in your heart.
    Students,
I pray for the Lord to give you strenghth as you see firsthand what some people never see. Also for you to realize how blessed you are and recommit yourselves to always being humble with the blessings provided to you. Know that you are making the day brighter for those you are ministering to.
Lissa, I love you, no Jackson yet.

  2. Greetings from Mrs. Chaulk's 7th period geography class! Tyler is curious about the economy in Kenya. What are the natural resources, exports, and imports? Colby is curious about the terrain in your location. (Are there good running trails?) Jordan is interested in knowing the literacy rate and having more facts about the educational system. Mrs. Chaulk wants to know if during your "down" time, Coach Bird, if you're playing "Simon Says" in Swahili. Kaylee is interested in knowing the time difference.

  3. Good evening Son,

Just want you to know that you will be in my prayers as you prepare for Sunday. Just remember that you will be preaching to your home church and how safe and secure you feel at home. (Not to mention how safe and secure you are in the arms of Christ as He leads you to say the things the youth of Ridgeways need to hear). I love you and miss your phone calls. I pray for all of you and hope all your students are learning to love Kenya the way we did. Love, Mom

  4. Greetings from Mrs. Chaulk's fourth period geography class. Jordan is interested in knowing about the weather this time of year in Kenya. You mentioned a traditional Kenyan meal...what would that consist of? Our class wants to know if you've seen the native wildlife? Have you been on a safari? Bye for now; we'll be praying for you!
